AIRBORNE ARMY LANDS IN HOLLAND
SEVERAL TOWNS REPORTED OCCUPIED
OPERATION “LIKE CLOCKWORK”
SIMULTANEOUS ADVANCE BY SECOND ARMY
Strong forces of the First Allied Airborne Army landed in Holland yesterday afternoon and last night pilots reported that the operation “went like clockwork.” One report states that the enemy has been cleared from several Dutch towns.
It was the greatest airborne operation ever launched, more than 1,000 aircraft taking part. R.A.F. and American bombers prepared the way with massive night and day bombing attacks on airfields, gun positions, and barracks.
Last night it was reported that armoured spearheads of the British Second Army had moved forward from their Beeringen bridgehead and had advanced two miles across the Dutch frontier.
