FIRST LINK WITH TROOPS NORTH OF RHINE
SUPPLIES FERRIED ACROSS THE RIVER

Contact has been made with the British airborne troops isolated north of the Rhine. This first link was made by forces of the Second Army, who crossed the river under cover of darkness in amphibious lorries with food and ammunition.

The situation was described last night as much brighter, with the Second Army “attacking everywhere” with vigour. They have penetrated a mile into Germany, south-east of Nijmegen and captured a village.

The Canadians have advanced 10 miles across the Escaut canal east of Antwerp in the Turnhout area.
