SECOND ARMY NEAR THE RHINE
53-MILE ADVANCE ACROSS HOLLAND
ARMOUR CLOSING ON NIJMEGEN
BIG NEW AIRBORNE FORCE LANDED
The British Second Army has made a swift advance across Holland from the Belgian border, and advanced elements were last night three miles from Nijmegen, on the south bank of the Rhine, one of the areas where the Airborne Army had landed.

General Dempsey’s men advanced 53 miles in 48 hours. from Eindhoven, which has been captured by the Second Army, powerful armoured columns drove 37 miles on parallel routes, breaking through all opposition.

Progress of the Airborne Army was described last night as excellent. As well as Nijmegen, the other mainl landing areas were Eindhoven and Arnhem, north of the Rhine. More strong forces were landed by air yesterday at unspecified points.

The Germans say that more landings have been made in the province of Utrecht, nearer the coast.
